I would like to ask a tecnical question.
In Italy we use to protect a sandblasted glass with a liquid anti-fingertip.
Since i have to do a tempered sandblasted door, if i sandblast the glass before i "temper" the glass...can i avoid further fingertip without use the liquid?
Can tempering a sandblasted glass get a satin effect against finger-tip ?
Tempering only goes to 600ºC, so I do not think that is hot enough to effect the blasted surface.
The glass will be stronger if you blast first and then temper. If you temper first, then blast, the glass is weakened by changing the surface.
If you happen to be deep carving with the blaster, it can help to first heat to around 600ºC and then anneal the glass before you temper it. I've heard of people having problems with breakage while tempering sand carved glass. If it is just a surface frost, I do not think there will be a problem.
....and if your supplier accidently sends you tempered glass, without an identifying logo, for carving, be prepared for an explosion like a shotgun blast as the whole thing blows to pieces. Very frustrating when you've already masked and cut the artwork for several pieces. Jen
