Loose kiln element

Post by Cate G »

I think I have to replace one of the elements in my Olympic Oval kiln. It got loose about a year ago, but until recently was only in one place, about 4" long. About 3 weeks ago I opened the kiln after a firing and now it is loose about 18-24". I tried to put it back in place, but it seems it shrunk in size??? Anyway, was wondering how difficult it is to replace. It started coming loose close to the controller and goes around the kiln and then loops back. A total of about 100" or so.

heat it up with a blowtorch to cherry red, then use a snap ring pliers to pry the coil apart to make it longer. it will then go back into the groove, and you can pin it in place.

there's almost no reason to replace elements unless they're broken or very old.

Thanks Charlie. I was hoping there was a way to do it besides replacing.
