BE clear with broken black stringers

Postby Linda Hassur » Fri Apr 16, 2004 5:57 pm

I recently bought a couple sheets of BE 4400 clear with broken black stringers. How would you cap this with clear and not have lots of bubbles as the surface is pretty rough with stacks of stringers. Thanks Linda

Fire it up to fully fuse the stringers flat. You can scream up fast if the glass is a single thickness and it should flatten out at 1400 or even less. You should be able to get the sheet in and out of your kiln in under two hours (dependent upon your kiln). The edges will pull in a bit and thicken up, but overall the sheet will remain 3mm thick. The black is so soft that it levels out will spread though (the black stringers), so be prepared for those lines to look less crisp.

You could also fire it stringer side down for crisper stringers.
