Smooshing Weights

Post by Don Burt »

Are flat iron griddles or 1/4 stainless steel plate suitable for using to press down glass in the kiln? Or will they spall and warp or something? The high end of the process is >1500F with a 30 minute hold. I don't want to ruin the metal just to find out its a bad idea. I can source some refractory shelves and bricks and stuff.

Brad's PDF downloadable here about smooshing is helpful. I'm having fun with mini-kiln sized pieces so far.

Hi Don,

Can't answer your question but it's a long time without an answer so I thought I'd say 'Hi'!

HI Jen. Thank you for checking in. We could talk about AU women's swimming or something. They did well in Tokyo and in a time zone where their fans could actually watch it.

Yes, they did shine. A little bit of good news among all the terrible news. I must admit I didn't watch any of the Games, just the highlights on the evening news.

When do we see a new glass masterpiece, Don? Your audience is waiting. No pressure........
