Whiting as texture mold

Post by The Hobbyist »

Will a nice layer of whiting spread on the shelf with a texture pattern pressed into the surface serve as a mold for kilncarving? Or is it too soft? Can it be stiffened?

I have mixed whiting with water to a thick cream consistency and applied it to coated kilnshelf with a cake decorating icing sqeezebag to form tree images. Sets to a hard enough image to set 1/4" glass on top. (coat with kilnwash before placing glass on top) You should probably experiment!
