Given the size of your pieces if they're coming out of the kiln without cracking you're probably ok. It's not unusual to see halos at the edges of a piece.
It can sometimes be difficult to interpret the patterns revealed by polarizing filters. Take a look at some commercial glass - you'll be amazed how much apparent stress there is in the glass.
