.5mm fibre paper

Hi guys,
I`ve been using thinfire for a while now and find it really easy to use. I`ve also got a range of fibre papers in various thicknesses. When using the 2-3mm paper I`ve always pre fired the binder out first, but what about the .5mm paper? Do I still need to prefire this? It is fibre paper rather than thin fire.
What do you reckon?

Hi Dave,

When kiln carving I don't prefire fiber paper. I haven't had any problems firing with the gklass directly on the unfired paper.

Dave,

I use mostly fiber paper when firing and have never purposely pre-fired it. I only pre-fire when using fiberboard. Never had a problem.

I've been having a problem suddenly with my fiber paper. I bought a huge roll of it, and have had no problem at all, then suddenly it scorches in the kiln beginning at about 850F and affects the glass, as well. This is about halfway thru the roll.

At first, I just cut the appropriate size, and put my stuff on it, and it came out just as white as it went in. I'm about halfway thru it now, and it's turned on me. I have even unrolled another length thru it, to see if there was surface dust or something, but no...it's all suddenly scorching.

I wish I could remember who I got it from. I remember it was a husband and wife team who apparently manufacture the stuff, but I don't have any record or notes on it. Drat.

Anyone else have this problem, or any suggestions?
