Shaped dropouts?

Post by daffodildeb »

So, okay, I admit it probably wasn't the best idea...but I had a star shaped bisque piece that I thought would make a nice drop ring. I have loads of experience with these things...not!...but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

The glass got hot, and thinned in the center--enough to drip a small puddle underneath. It never did the drop thing, though. What I have now is a perfect Texas (appropriate!) star in the middle of a heat wrinkled square of glass.

What went wrong? I'm thinking that there wasn't enough space across the opening to allow the drop to start properly (it was only about 1 1/2" or so.
