Hi All!
I've been a lurker here for a couple of months now. I've finally gotten around to putting some of my pictures online, so please let me know what y'all think.
Johnathan, Viewed your pics and have a few comments. Your piece titled Circus has a really handsome fused element. I have not done a pot melt or combing yet so I don't know what it is but it turned out really well. Whisical has great colors. I can see tiles like this used as design elements in a overall tiled surface. The quilt pieces, from the general view, are nice but the close ups show some dificulties. One piece I'm thinking of is the one with the four squares that are butted together. It appears the the squares were fashioned with triangles to get the fit into each other. The joints seem to be apparent and to me that is a distraction. I would have cut my squares then used my saw to cut out the abutted side. Of course I couldn't have done this four months ago because until them I couldn't afford a ring saw. I have also wondered how to join fused pieces to cut glass to make panels with the varying thicknesses of the glasses used. I assumed you copperfoiled. (I know about the old saying....assuming makes an ass........) I think the lead lines need to flow a little smoother. Of course I could be way off base here and you could be going for texture. In fact all of this could be off base because taking quick pics of glass is problematic at best. Keep working in warm glass. All the bugs work themselves out with what we learn by doing and reading about the results others have had on this board and keeping good notes. Also, keep in mind, having the right equipment can make the results more predictable. All this will come about with time and money. Ann
Thanks for the comments! Circus was combing. One of my first attempts actually. I'm pretty happy with it. The quilt panel is actually leaded together. The reason I didn't use copper foil is because the heat from the soldering iron tends to crack the glass. I did use triangle to join the pieces together. I didn't get a ring saw untill after I had finished the panel. However next time I will try to cut it out on the saw. Just wish it were easier to do! I'll do my best to get better pictures at some point. I really need to take the time and do the picutres with my SLR instead of a digital camera. Oh well, Maybe next weekend.
Thanks again for the comments!
