Fire polishing sanded glass

Post by Jean »

I am new at this posting, so bear with me...
My question is about fire polishing - time and temperature - how much without changing the shape of my glass. I have tried several times, but I am not getting the full polish I want. Can someone give me a few pointers? My last firing I took the kiln up to 1300 degrees and held for 30 minutes - I am working with very small jewelry pieces that I have sanded and shaped with a med grit grinding wheel.

Jean,

You just need to take it a little higher with the temp but you don't say what type of kiln so I don't know how high - maybe up to 1350? You can always take a quick look to see what's going on in the kiln to make sure you achieve the effect you want. You can search the archives for info on fire polishing too. btw you should post fusing ? in kiln forming discussion forum in future.
