Gold irid reed glass

I have a sheet of gold irid reed glass that I intended to make into small plates using the bottom piece irid side up, the top piece one quarter turn with irid side down so that small bubbles would form between the squares after firing. However, I seem to recall reading somewhere that two pieces of irid could not face or touch each other. Now I can't find where I read that -- did I make it up? Thanks for helping a fairly new enthusiast.

An irid surface to another irid surface is a tenuous bond. You're not fusing hot enough to melt the tin coating.
You can sandblast a small border off both pieces and the exposed glass will fuse. Maybe 1/4" - 3/8" border.
You can have a different width border on both pieces and you will get a double irid border.
The edge will be black, then single irid, then double irid. Doesn't have to be straight, wavy works well . . .
