While shopping locally today I found a product labeled Maninite, by BNZ Materials. It is a calcium silicate structural material.
I am thinking this could work for daming and boxes for sand castings.
Has anyone had experience with this product"?

Re: Refractory product question
It is marinite. I would lean towards vermiculite boards as they hold together with stainless steel screws. I plan to use calcium silicate boards as backup insulation for kiln building. I tried Marinite as a kiln shelf for firing enameled stained glass. It warps though.

Unifrax makes Durablanket which is what people call fiberfrax. They also make Duraboards HD and LD these are rated for higher temperatures than calcium silicate boards. HD stands for high density, LD low density.Marvin wrote:Thanks for you input and spelling correction![]()

Vermiculite boards come in different densities as well. The more dense are stronger and less insulating.

Marinite has a tendancy to warp. Cut up mullite kiln shelves work very well, you can also cast your own dams out of products such as Greenlite 45.
