I have some Spectrum textured iridescent glass that I would like to slump. Prior to slumping, should I fire polish to smooth the cut edges? If so, should I place clear frit on the textured side to preserve the texture?
Will I have an unsightly result if I slump it textured/iridescent side down?
If you want to slump a single layer, you should be able to round the edges slightly in the slump. That is the way to keep the texture as well. If you put clear frit on clear irrid, you will not preserve the texture. It will vanish. If you put clear frit on the irridized side, it won't sink in - but you still won't preserve the texture.
I've found it doesn't hurt to smooth the edge a bit before slumping. If you have a grinder, just wack off the sharp edges. As for the glass, slumping should be fine. I've not lost iridescent while slumping.
Thank you so much for the knowledge. I knew the learning curve would be pretty steep, but I had no idea!!!! Maybe all this new information will keep those cobwebs from forming in my brain!
