square up on straight talk
here is an e-mail i got today.....Dear Rosanna,
Thank you for your interest in Straight Talk Wireless. We are
responding to your recent inquiry.
We understand that you are inquiring if squareup.com credit card service
works in Straight Talk Wireless.
Please be informed that squareup.com allows you to accept credit cards
using mobile phones. You will simply attach the card reader and
download the required app on the phone for the process to work. Also,
this app is compatible with Apple products such as iPhone, iTouch, and
iPads. In addition, squareup.com is also compatible with Google Android
devices running 2.1 and up.
On the other hand, since Straight Talk Wireless already have Google
Android handsets and BYOP or Bring Your Own Phone program. Squareup.com
app will certainly work as long as this app is compatible with the
Straight Talk handset you are using.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact one of our
customer care representatives at 1-888-251-8164. For your convenience,
our representatives are available Monday-Sunday from 8:00 AM to 11:45 PM
EST.
Thank you for being a Straight Talk Wireless customer. We appreciate
your business.
Sincerely,
Straight Talk Wireless

Basically, if you can get an email on your smartphone in that area, you can use the Square (assuming, of course, there's a Square app for your particular smartphone platform). The Square is working through the Internet, so as long as you can reach the web, you're fine.

Re: square up on straight talk
any possibility that would work witha Kindle Fire? or netbooks with WIFI cconection? We have a very old and inexpensive phone plan and don't want to spend all the $ for a smartphone upgrade.

Re: square up on straight talk
I am hesitating on the square because I would think it would be good to have both debit and credit card reader... what do you all think ... is it really important to have debit service? I have a lot of small items to sell. I am just not sure... one other thing I listened to a CBC radio program last week that said 80-90% of a sales are done with plastic either debit or credit card now... and Canada has just stopped using the penny, because of the round up or down to the nearest nickle, using cash will become less and less, but by using a card the sale is the exact amount, so now the debit reader for point of sales seems even more important. janet

We've been using it on Straight Talk for about a year on my wife's Iphone. Works beautifully.

Re: square up on straight talk
Straight Talk is another supplier of cell phone service. Same as verizon and AT&T etc.
Prices are much better.
Sharon has unlimited everything for $45 per month. Note: to get her on an Iphone, I had to outright buy the Iphone at the Apple store. Ran me about $500. That has paid back many times over in monthly savings on service.

Plus one of the best things about Straightalk is that is actually uses Verizon's system, so in turn you are getting Verizon coverage at a great discount.

Re: square up on straight talk
Guy, you perked my interest because where I live Verizon is the only reliable service. The others all suck. But... The Smart Talk website says that the card they use is GSM. Verizon is CDMA. I happen to have a retired Verizon iPhone4. I share a Verizon plan with my wife. I don't know where we are in the contract term, but the bill for her iPhone and my flip phone is more than $90. Ironically, the flip phone is much better at phone calling than the iPhone.GuyKass wrote:Plus one of the best things about Straightalk is that is actually uses Verizon's system, so in turn you are getting Verizon coverage at a great discount.
Meanwhile, I got an offer yesterday from Paypal for their credit card accepting service. It seems to be comparable to squareup. But, it does require a smart phone, iPhone or Android, not a laptop or desktop.

Bert,
For some reason (unknown to me) none of those services work on laptop or desktop.
Tried to get one for one of my businesses that accepted credit cards, and had to use an ipad.

Re: square up on straight talk
I use an ipad at the gallery I participate in. The card reader goes in to the headphone jack. You can't listen to Pandora when the card reader is plugged in. However, as far as I am aware, the ipad is working on wifi, not on a phone driven connection.Barry Kaiser wrote:Bert,
