Re: troubles testing new kiln
The first time you fire a board, there are organics in the binders that burn out. These will stink and create gasses.

Re: troubles testing new kiln
At this point nothing, try again and it's likely resolved its self.
Once you've fired the kiln to fusing temps the organics should have all burned out and you shouldn't have any more issues. Was there smoke and a burnt sugar like smell coming out of the kiln the first time you fired with the new fibre?

Boards are not exactly flat. WIth a shelf, if there is a dip in the shelf, it can trap air which can blow that sort of bubble. There are a few solutions. You can put a piece of fiber paper beneath the glass. This will allow the air to escape. You can work on a thin sandbed. You can fill and sand the board. Or you can replace the shelf with a flatter one.
