The lights are from above. China paintings can look good with moderate back lighting, but look horrid with strong back lighting. In this case, top lighting is far and away best. It is also best to have that lighting with strong and weak spots. Halogen is my preferred light source. This creates the best highlights.
There is 20mm of clear glass above the painting.
BTW, I learned from a large scale glass buyer that 10mm glass is the least expensive glass per pound thickness you can buy.
Bob, I wanted my client to choose grout between panels, but he chose paintable silicone. It is his maintenance chore.
