Bubble block progress, not.

Below are first two attempts at bigger bubble blocks. Schedule is a combined effort between 100mm cast and a 30mm anneal, I was before myself when I thought I had it nailed. Have a few thoughts how to correct two very different failures, it's bloody science. I'm going back to a stack of clear and only a couple of colour sheets until I can even begin to think about control for size and position. Have backed away from everything else to concentrate on these and cane for what I call octopus skin slab. Heading to Canberra for a 90th this weekend so will make time to check out the glass for inspiration. peace, haydo

The two bottom photos are gorgeous. I have never seen this kind of work before. I searched "bubble block" but found nothing. If you don't mind sharing, I would love to know the technique involved. Thanks.

Thanks all, wasn't until I sliced them up to see what was happening that I was less disappointed. These spend so much time in the kiln for a relatively small piece that it frustrates, pacing, waiting for the birth,
Warren there are other glass workers getting bubbles into glass, not sure how they do theirs. Bubble blocks is only what I call my work with the idea. I've tried so many different ways,organics, leaving space in lay up even now still having to come up with new tweaks. peace, haydo

You are onto something here, the Haydo technique! I agree with you, stop everything else (for now) and dig into this. I love the colors too!

I do something like this on a very small scale (I call it mockume gane) with pattern bars for murrini, but I really love it writ large like this, Haydo. Absolutely gorgeous. I'm not sure what you're after, but as far as I'm concerned you could stop right here and use this for all kinds of things.

If it's any consolation, I've never done one of these that wasn't disappointing...on the exterior. Like a geode, the exciting part is cutting it open.
