Mounting Glass in a Shadow Box, Etc.

I was wondering the best way to attach glass to the back of a shadow box or a board or otherwise. I've seen fused glass in shadow boxes. This weekend I saw a fused glass panel maybe 8" x 14" mounted to what looked like a canvas in a frame.
Do you glue it somehow? A small piece I can image gluing to the inside of a shadow box but not sure about something large how to attach it. The one I saw this weekend looked really nice. I'd to do the same in the future for wall pieces.

GE Silicone #2 is probably one of the best adhesives for fastening glass to many surfaces. I've used it for years both interior and exterior applications. NEVER had any failures. Some outside applications have stood hot summers, freezing winters, for 10 years and counting. (always use fresh product)

and ace hardware has one that is crystal clear, but it's not GE and costs a bit more. GE doesn't sell a clear one in big box stores. you'd need this if the glass is translucent to any degree.

My framer uses GE silicone and swears by it!

beware some sealants that are "water" clear do not have the adhesive strength you may require as they are made to be a sealant rather than a glue.
I suspect it is like epoxy or concrete if you have a matrix of materials the strength is greater and clear sealants don't have that visible matrix.
Check the specifications carefully before choosing one.

I like the idea of shadow boxes too but think it would be more interesting to use a dark opaque around the perimeter of your work (making it look like a boxed frame) and imbed the work in clear. How cool would that look (much heavier to hang though)!
