Re: Mistakes and Taking Risks
Leslie,
You are too kind, I look forward to seeing what comes back our way.
I love that mold, I really need to get my welder fixed.
Have a great time.

Re: Mistakes and Taking Risks
Hi Les.
I will try and get down there on Monday the 27th.
I only live about 20 miles from Uro and BE both, so the commute will be a snap.
The folks at Uro are a great bunch.
They bend over backwards TO HELP
you will like the remodel.
They are going head to head with BE on the education thing.
I think it is a great step for all of the glass artists.
Looking forward to seeing you and Raf.
Jim

Re: Mistakes and Taking Risks
I am excited to experiment with Zircar Refractory Composites Moldable material ( Refractory Textile : RS-A Moldable ) while at Uroboros Glass Company . This is covering my large 44" inch stainless Steel metal Mold. My glass panel will only be 39 inchs long by 17 inchs wide but will be a fun experiment to help the glass slump and not to worry about sticking and shrinkage.

Re: Mistakes and Taking Risks
The glass will only be 3/4 of an inch thick. ( and only 40 inchs long) The schedule will be slow . 50 degrees per hour up to 1200 F. It will probably be nicely slumped at 1160 F. but because the Euclid Kiln is so large, I cannot open the lid to watch. I will drill some holes in the Ceramic Fiber coating I have laid over the metal so I get no surprises.
It is all just experimenting in a different kiln that I am used to and the Euclid kiln is top and bottom fire so hopefully no surprises

Re: Mistakes and Taking Risks
One of 5 panels to be created at Uroboros Glass Company Residency in July! More layers of clear to go on this but transporting layers of cut pieces and the finished cut panel is a trick in itself. Had to get a PaPs Manifest done tooo so going over the border will be alittle easier this time I hope. I just wish it was not so hard to get into the USA but hey! my motto is do not sweat the small stuff. So off I go to finish the other panels before I arrive there as time will be short to fire and then slump this piece called: "WETLANDS SANCTUARY" . Look so forward to seeing a few of you while in Portland too! Leslie

Re: Mistakes and Taking Risks
Hi Havi,
Well sometimes I get worried about cream or white in the middle of pieces reflecting heat away as dark colours absorb more heat and light ones keep abit cooler sometimes Sooooo! I had already changed the piece ( and am actually a lot happier with composition now
) so let me know what you think

How are these big, thick pieces displayed? Do they get any light thru them?

Well depending how the client wants them to be displayed , inside a wall going down a hallway, or going in a simple stand so light comes through. OR slumped into a vessel form .
