Adding heating element to kiln lid

Post by Glassguy* »

Hi,
I picked up a 16" octagonal ceramic kiln with the standard kanthal side elements. I would like to turn it into a more suitable "glass" kiln by adding an element to the top. I was going to use a router to excavate a deep groove and pin in a Kanthal element. Is there a better way?
Thank you

Bob

The router will work. Better is quartz tubes with the elements inside (avoids brick dust) or even porcelain rods with elements surrounding.
