METHYL CELLULOSE or CMC

Post by Havi »

Hello everybody!
Can I make glue, for glass, mixing methyl cellulose with water??? [Actually I am seeking a way to create something like gel i.e. thicker than regular liquid glue]

Or

Does it have to be mixing CMC with water???
Of course, with the right proportions.

Many thanks in advance,

Havi

Thank you "know All" Brad!!

Just copied to my notebook LaLonde's instructions.
However, I am asking if it is possible to make a thickened glue NOT from CMC but from METHYL CELLULOSE.... Is it the same, or different?

Many thanks,

Havi

CMC is carboxyl methyl cellulose. Methyl Cellulose is chemically a bit different, but has many of the same properties. But since both are used as food thickeners and as glues, I would give it a try using Richard's procedure. I'd be surprised if it didn't work.

Remember -- make it up a little thicker than the recipe. You can always dilute later, but you can't thicken it after it's been made.
