Hello dear friends!
A while ago I was doing a mesh melt. Went as high as 1700F. I stayed there a bit more than recommended, as I wanted maximum glass to flow thru the mesh.
Was watching the kiln every once in a while - and it seemed to be working OK.
Then, about 5-6 hours after I started the firing, before going to bed for the night [probably after the annealing, ] I checked on the kiln, and was shocked to see that it stopped working!!!
It showed some strange remark , which upon checking in the manual - I learnt that it meant 'administrative warning' - or similar.
I was scared to hell, could not call anybody here [Israel] it was too late at night. Then called an American friend in USA , whose knowledge and experience I appreciate a lot.
He told me to shut the kiln off, and even unplug it - to make sure that it will not re-start . Wait until the morning, when the kiln cools down, and see what happened. It was a good advise. [MANY THANKS, B.!]
Luckily enough, the piece was done already, and it seems to me that the controller stopped working when upon going down at a rate of 180 degrees F [100 metrical].
My question is - Is typical to Orton in general,[I am sure it was AFTER annealing, as it looks OK], or is this my private controller ?
I would appreciate your comments and experience.
Many thanks,
Havi

Re: My Orton controller - did it go wrong??
Hi Brad
Thanks for responding.
I believed I followed Immermans' schedule with variation,
in metric -
275 538 30
full 927 75 [i.e. 1700F]
full 820 45
full 482 1:30
28 427
54 371
I believe the error message was PLOG 0010 - CONTROLLER STORAGE DEVICE FAULT.
CAN you tell what causes this error, how could I prevent / avoid such errors.
And of course many thanks for your help - your will and your knowledge.
Havi
ps
I used this high temp. for a bit longer, as to allow more glass to melt thru the holes of the mesh, and to enable it to flatten in 1 uniform flat surface.

Re: My Orton controller - did it go wrong??
PloG errors mean the controller has detected a problem. It can be a lot of things. Sometimes it's just a glitch caused by a power surge or something that's a one off thing. PLoG 011, 012, or 013 errors mean there's a problem with a thermocouple. I believe 010 is a generic catch all error message (but not 100% sure).
In any case, you can usually get rid of the error by just pushing ENTER on the controller. If that doesn't work, do a two button (or even three button) reset. They're described on Orton's website here: https://www.ortonceramic.com/custpage.c ... _id=173533 (look for the FAQs about PLoG errors).
You can also email Orton directly here: https://www.ortonceramic.com/Contact%5FUs/ Try Jim Baldwin or Donna Malloy from the list on that page.
I don't see any issues with the program you're using.

Many thanks, Brad
What I got from this WGBB, and its participants -YOU - among them, is enormous. I owe you a lot. And I am endlessly thankful.
I shall copy and save what you wrote here, especially whom to turn to, in case of another catastrophe..
Thanks also for approving my schedule - it is important to me, as I love doing melts.
All the very very best,
Havi
