Ferro paints/color

I did the worst thing. I test fired some Ferro paints on float and forgot/didn't write down which tiles were which color I thought it would be fairly simple to tell which colors they were. Boy, was I wrong!

I made about a dozen 1" x 2" tiles of each of the following colors:

Red
Poppy
Manderine
orange

*also, lemon (very yellow), chestnut (dark brown) and ochre (tan)

(I fired to 1450/10 min)

Are the ugly 'brown' ones the red? (think dull brick red)
*should I have fired higher for the red?

Is Poppy really really bright reddish/orange
*these are really pretty!

Are orange and manderine really close? (these are the two that are confusing me the most)
One is lighter (more yellow?) the other is closer to poppy but still orange.
I know a manderine is an orange but is it darker than regular orange?

FYI/no comment needed... another no-no I did..... after I painted all the tiles, I had left over paint and painted some of the tiles by combining the left over paints - without writing down which paints I combined. Most of these are streaky so I know they are combos.

I will never do that (not take notes) again!

If you are lazy like me another way to keep track, without all that writing, is to take before and after pictures of the layout on the shelf in/out of the kiln. Cheap too if you have a digital camera.

since these are sample tiles something else to do is to write down the color with that paint. ie if lemon is on the brush, then write lemon..

The ugly brown is probably a gold bearing red fired on the tin side. Poppy is a pretty dark deep red The other colors you should be able to pretty much tell the mandarin is a bit diffferent than the orange... The pale yellow is not the Mandarin.

Poppy-darkest coloration (red/orange)

Manderine -medium coloration- orange

Orange- lightest coloration - orange

or should I reverse the last two?

I guess it isn't that important because I still have lots of tests to run and will run these colors again anyway. Was just curious and didn't want to wait another week to test.
