sandblasting image fading in slump

Post by jerry keller »

Is there a way to protect a sandblasted image from losing its white frosted look while heating to a slump? Ramping up to 1250 at 800/hr to 1000, then 2000/hr to 1250 works well on 1/2" in a stainless mold, but some of the image becomes matted. Would a faster ramp help?
Or on the other side, is there a way to make the image clearer, like a fiber paper relief?

Don't cook it so high. I never slump over 1200 and prefer closer to 1150.

Slump first, Sanblast last.

I'd have to agree. If you want to maintain the frosted appearance, sandblast after slumping. I sandblast first and slump at 1150° and still get a uniform matte finish.
