slumping a sconce,help!

Post by Vickie »

I am going to try and slump my fused glass onto my sconce mold, which measures 10.5" x 12 3/4" . Can anyone help with a firing schedule? I'm new to using my computerized Orton controller, and am unsure what to do. My controller is the 3 key Orton, Jen Ken kiln. Also, any help for a tack fusing schedule would be appreciated. I might want to add a few "decorations" before I slump.
Thank you from this Rookie!!

I'm not familiar with your controller so I can't comment there, but basic schedules are basic schedules regardless of kiln or controller.

Tack fusing occurs when the glass is hot enough to stick but not flatten. Sometimes the best indicator is to watch for rounding on the edges of each piece. Depending on your glass it usually occurs between 1250 and 1350, at least in my kiln.

Draping over the form will occur at about the same temp but I wouldn't try to do both operations at the same time. I get pretty good slumps and drapes using Spectrum series 96 at about 1350; a little more if there are more layers.

Some of it has to do with your kiln. Call the people you bought it from and ask them. That's called customer service and they should be pretty cooperative.

Good Luck
