I am making a drop out mold with 4 holes in it. I would like to get the most firings out of this drop out mold that I can. Should I ridgidize it(':?:')
Fire it before ridgidizing
kiln wash it
or just handle it with lots of TLC
I recently posted regarding repairing a rigidized 110J mold that cracked, and there were no replies. Considering this, I would fire unrigidized as long as possible (can be many firings, with care), then rigidize when it gets too floppy. The rigidized mold is stiffer but substantially more brittle...and cracks easily. (Even a little torque on a drop mold will crack it)
Once there is a crack, it's not long before the mold is in two pieces.
I am experimenting with repair methods...maybe I'll post if/when I find a successful one !
