Uroboros Glass Frit Mosaic

Post by Betty »

Just got Uroboros glass frit Mosaic size, and it has a white powder or dust all over the glass pieces. Do I need to remove the dust from the pieces?

The glass i fired last night I cleaned with rubbing alocolce and it looked good this morning.

I'd wash it. I would think it's glass or silica dust from the crushing process that is all over your frit, but you can't be certain. Just to get the silica dust out would be motive enough, but you don't know how it will fire up if you don't clean it either. I would put it in a cheese cloth and rinse it off well then dry with a clean cotton cloth.

For the smaller frit it has never created problems for me, but for the larger chunks, I am guessing it might make a visible difference.

Yes, I think Cynthia is right. The really fine dust can cause clouding.

ASK Uro!

I would call Uro directly and ask them if this is what you can expect all the time - because that's a big pain!! Maybe you got a bum batch.
