in my experience, i have found that if i make a hole with 2 layers of 1/16" fiber paper, it will hold together for multiple firings, slicing the piece with a tile saw, and polishing each edge with a wet belt sander, so the next time you may wish to try using that if you're doing multiple operations on a piece with a hole.

in your case, it may last another firing. can you find a smaller piece of wood to put into the existing hole? the bead release probably formed a tube that will stay intact through another firing, but there's no guarantee. it may just collapse. it probably won't last through much coldworking, but since one has to go through some work to get release out of beads after de-mandrelling them, it just might.
