I bought a large quantity of fiber blanket to make molds. What product is best used as a rigidizer and where do I find it???? I am hoping these molds will be able to be used on multiple firings. Thanks, Gail

Hi Gail,
It's just called rigidizer. The stuff that makes it work is colloidal silica. If you want a lot you can get it at R. R. Horne Insulation in Tucker. Larkin Furnace Construction in Conyers may have it and would likely be cheaper than anybody else. Daven's, John's Stained Glassworks, Art Glass Emporium should all have it in small bottles -- not enough to do more than one or two small molds. Otherwise look for refractories supply in the yellow pages.
If you want to split a 5 gallon bucket I might be interested. Only problem is I'm out of town for the next month. If you buy 5 gallons and want it to keep, put a few drops of bleach in it to kill off mold and don't let it freeze.
