Hi all!

I will stay healthy and therefore this question:

I have copperwire surrounded with tin.

Is the tin by high temperature dangerous ?

Jan . What we call tin copper wire in Australia may not be the same as tin coated wire in other parts of the world......So our .....tin coated wire isn't tin. it's coated with lead ..and as we all know lead isn't that safe....... ' Buzz wire' is also sold as tin wire..I think it may be nickel coated ...not tin at all ...and nickel may not be that safe....... tin isn't high on the list of don't use materials......but you must be certain it is tin.....or just wait for Charlie's reply.....for sure he will have the correct answer...Col

I did use copper wire from electrical wire in my works between 2 layers of glass. But the problem is this electr. wire is build from several thin wires and must be twisted before use. There is thicker wire build from 1 copper wire, but I found now this "Tinned Copperwire" and did wonder if I can use this (and want to know if it is dangerous). This Tinned copperwire has been used by the plumber to make "ground" (in bathroom etc)

Nichrome (and high fire wire, I guess) is more expensive. But thanks for your posting!

Charlie did you read this subject (see Colin's posting)?? Perhaps you can explain what Tinned Copperwire exactly is?

Jan..I think this may be the same thing as we call tinned wire .. ..that is lead solder coated copper wire...re the meaning tinned..in that now lost art of the tinsmith ........sheets of metal that had been coated with a very thin zinc coating..were fashioned into the require shape and joined together with solder... before any parts could be joined together .. they were coated with lead solder.. this was called tinning....This use of the word tinning may not be so in other parts of the world...Colin

I believe Colin is correct. When I used to do stained glass I bought spools of tinned wire for making hooks. It was actually copper wire with a soldered lead finish.

Hi! I did get a confirmation that it is really "tin", so I will give this a try.
