I am in need of a piece of transparent ruby glass that is 80" X 14". does anyone know of anybody that could supply this? I know Spectrum could probably do it, but not sure if they would. This is a replacement for a church window and must match the others that are this size (one piece) that are housed between two pieces as an insulated unit. Any ieas or leads on where to procure this "animal"? Tenn. Tom http://www.fuhrmanglass.com

I think that Wissmach's full sheet size is 84" long. If it is old, chances are that it is Wissmach.

As I said in the tempered glass thread. It is possible to laminate 2 pieces of colored glass on to 1 piece of tempered or annealed glass if no real match can be found.

The problem you're going o find is getting someone to melt a whole tank for you when you only want one piece. There's no way Spectrum or any other sheet glass maker would do that. If you really need a custom color sheet glass I think the most likely way is to commision a mouthblown sheet. They can get very close with applied color rather than having to figure out a color melt that will match what you want. In fact a good part of mouthblown glass business is church restoration and such. They do call it antique afterall. The only problem is that any mouthblown sheet will fall way short of 80"

Check with Kokomo; I recall seeing some very large sheets at their factory.

For David- Spectrum produces a continuous ribbon of glass- it's not cut until it reaches the cool end of the lehr. Theoretically they could custom-cut at that end.

can't you fuse one up? just find someone with an 82" length kiln.

you could ask on the stained glass email list at glass@bungi.com. you might have to join it first at glass-request@bungi.com though.

Sure I'm aware of that. Its not as big a deal if he just wants a longer sheet of a stock color if the equipment can be set up to do that. And, Spectrum does make a pretty nice ruby. The problem is if Tom needs to match up a particular ruby.

Ps. Sorry, I guess I didn't read his post well. He didn't say anything about a custom color, I stand corrected. If any old ruby will do I'd give Jim Gregory at Spectrum a call and try and work something out. They probably only make that ruby once a year though so you may be in for a wait Tom.
