i remember seeing something where a guy has this pattern bar over a sharp edge, and then whacks the thing, and that breaks off a piece of the bar,,,,has anyone done this,,,,the specifics would be appreciated,,,im trying to find out a way of making slices, WITHOUT a saw,,,,,,can someone tell me how long it take to cut through a 1" sq pattern bar, with a saw, do you have to cut through the whole thing, or can you break it off, once you get going
thanks

Glass blowers use a carbide wedge and hammer to cut color bars. They don't need a clean shape though, just a hunk of glass. If you want to stack your pattern bars next to one another and fuse them, they need to be square and clean. A saw is the only way to do this. You can rent one from the tile dept at Home Depot for an hour and cut away.

Rodney- saw through the whole thing, don't try to break it, it'll take less than 5 seconds per cut. Marty

since it seems the blade goes through quickly, is there a CHOP SAW setup for this sort of thing,,,does the blade need to be underwater

The blade needs to be wet or the temperature will quickly get to the point where it causes the glass to fracture. The blade either runs through a tub of water, or it has water pumped onto it... either way, you need coolant at the blade/glass contact point.

home depot will cut it for you at .25 per cut, or just find a tile guy and stop by with a 12 pack.
