I bought this saw for difficult cuts in stained glass: http://www.delphiglass.com/index.cfm?pa ... o=itemList . I have found that it cuts through fused glass very well. It cuts curves very well, also. Straight lines are a bit more difficult, but I think that's operator failure on my part  I cut straight lines by hand so I don't get much practice with it.

You mean like a glass cutter or a saw?

Taurus has a new saw coming out. I wouldn't buy a Taurus 2.2 until I looked at one of their new saws. I think you can add a heavier blade to the new saw which would be good for thicker fused glass and cabachons.
If you want a Taurus 2.2 I think you can find lower prices than $389.

I like the Taurus 2.2 but am looking forward to seeing what the new saw is like.

As Dione mentioned, the new Taurus is coming out in mid-October. It's suppose to be to cut pattern bars.

i requested literature on the taurus 3 - looks good and has 3 different blades, is supposed to cut thicker glass tho' i would imagine there's a limit to the thickness, my supplier is supposed to have them next month, check gemini's site and see if they have info on there yet, looks like it might be going on my xmas list for santa....

A glass cutter is the best small tool ever devised for this.

I recommend the CRL heavy glass cutting kit and a cutter for thinner glass along with it.

Bert, do you mean one of those small, pencil-like, non-electric gadgets with the little rolling wheel on the end? I suppose that could be very useful with all the power grid problems the world seems to be experiencing. I'm also becoming rather attached to my jewelry torches which are only dependent on the fuel tanks. My Little Torch oxy-acet has lasted over a year. :!:

I got a very good price on my Taurus II. Had I known the Taurus 3 was coming out, I would have waited. But, I've had my T-II for about 4 months now and I'm very pleased with it. *still wish I had waited, though :x *

Yeah that's it. Mine runs on kerosene, K-1. I just taught inexperienced glass cutters to cut 3/8" float with these tools, curved and straitht lines.

DANI,
DO YOU USE A TORCH TO CUT THICK GLASS? WHAT KIND OF GLASS ARTIST ARE YOU?

DOES ANYONE USE A SMALL BANDSAW WITH A SPECIAL TYPE OF BLADE?

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE INFO.

ELIZABETH AGAIN ...TO CLARIFY WHEN I SAY BANDSAW, I MEAN ONE FROM HOME DEPOT ...NOT A SPECIAL JEWELER'S SAW THAT WILL PROBABLY COST MORE.

Check out the Diamond Laser 2000 and 5000.

No light - great water feed band saws.

I've cut 6" slab with it.

The blade takes less glass away than a T2.2 because it is thin. 1/6 vs. 1/8.

T2.2 will corner better because the blade is round not flat - easier circles.

2000 is THREE times the cost - about 1200.00

I saw the taurus 3 this past sunday. It is a sweet tool. Quieter than the 2.
It also can be taken off the table and used an a hand held tool.

The price will be around the same as the 2 now, but then the 2 will be sold for a cheaper price.
