Hi,

I have just been looking at the very interesting video about Doug Randall making one of his signature bowls (http://www.opb.org/programs/artbeat/vid ... ug-Randall). The video was mentioned in another Warmglass thread.

Could someone please tell me were to get a cutting tool like Doug is using to cut the strip in short lengths?

I have checked here (Australia) but the smallest one cuts a minimum of 5 cm (2") upwards, too big for my small jewelry pieces.

Many thanks and best whishes for the Season, seachange

That looks like the Glastar strip/circle cutter set up for cutting strips used to cut repetetive lengths from a strip cut earlier. http://www.glastar.com/catalog/referenc ... ctions.cfm Another tool to produce the same results would be the Morton portable glass shop set up on the Morton surface http://www.mortonglass.com/pages/Prod/PG01B/PG01B.html

Best wishes,

Very similar to Glasstar is the Silberschnitt Cutting Pad.
It has the rubber pad you can roll fo keeping.
That makes it a bit inaccurate especially for narrow cuts.
I solved the problem with a rectangular acrylic block.
I place it next to the bar and do my cutting at 6" distance.
The same acrylic square serves as a rectangle.

Thank you Tom and Lauri.

Have checked the tools you suggested. From the shape, the only one that 'looks' similar is the Glasstar. I suppose in principle all work in a similar way.

Have sent a private message to Doug also, just is case there is another good quality product out there that hasn't come up yet in all my searches.

Hopefully I'll get a response, everyone is so busy at this time of the year. Otherwise I'll might have to go for the glasstar.

Thanks again, seachange

Today I solved the equal width problem with
Silberschnitt cutter. Works also on glasstar.
First I make a test piece of scrap glass, sau 3/4" wide.
If I am happy with the accuracy
then I align the glass against the edge stop.

Take your test strip and place it over the moving bar
next to cutter head. Put your fingernail left against the test strip. Remove the test strip and move the cutter head against your fingernail.
After the score, repeat.

Fast and reliable.
Thanks for the rolling pin tip. It works
