Looking for rubber mask

Does anyone know of a rubber mask that you can put over glass and maybe stretch tight? I know there is 3M buttercut but, I have never used it. I saw a film of a glass blower that would blow a piece of glass and then stretch this rubbery material over the glass and then cut out a sandblast pattern. He would then spray the glass with a conductive spray and electroform it. I am not looking to do that but, I am looking for some type of plyable material that you can strectch over glass like he was using. Any ideas? Thanks.

I remember the glass blower, Christopher Tarpley, and his technique.

Click on glass. Sombody else we know there too. :)

I think he was using the blasting resist made by Hartco. Very nice pliable green stuff as I remember.

The green Hartco #425 is 25 mil vinyl and isn't that rubbery, but it can be had at http://www.signwarehouse.com.

I like to use the Anchor Continental 128 which is an 18 mil rubber resist which is very pliable and conforms to almost any surface regardless of curvature. It is available from many glass distributors or from Dawson-MacDonald at http://www.dawson-macdonald.com/product.html. They don't have an online catalog, but give them a call and they'll ship.

Just a couple of random ideas that I have not tried.

Rubber cement: Form fitting, can be as thick as you want, removable later.

Dipable rubber: The kind they sell for tool handles. Same thing here.

Both of these would require doing the designing/cutting on the piece, but you would avoid wrinkles bubbles etc.

Paul,
We don't have the green resist but have various thicknesses of sandblasting resists at the Merry Go Round. Or you might call Craig and see if there is a local source for what you need.
