Pulley to lift kiln lid.

Warm Tips has multi-part instructions to attach a pulley to lift a kiln lid. But the final piece, i.e., counterweights and methods of securing the other end of rope/wire to hold the lid open is missing from the series. Was it ever written? I have a 36" o.d. Jen Ken kiln. Because of my size (5'2") and age (80), I have a problem with closing the lid and I worry that I might let it drop due to its weight. Thank you for any help you can give me.

The last part of your counterweight should be sand in a bucket. This way, you can micro-adjust how much weight you need. The idea is to need a little upward force to lift the lid, so it does not float up on it's own.

Thanks, Bert. I'll give the sand a try.

Or fill a 4 inch PVC pipe with concrete, inserting a large hook into the wet concrete at one end to hang it from and capping the other end. Very tidy.
