is it safe to fire a piece that had a small amount of hxtal applied to it 2 weeks previously?

Can I presume that you are trying to burn off the HXTAL or at least trying to separate a bond? This is my preferred method of removing the HXTAL but I generally take it all the way up to annealing temperature, and then go through the full and proper annealing cycle.
There may be some noxious fumes during the firing but good ventilation is a must! Bad smell and probably not good to breath.
Hope this helps. Any further details I might need to know about what you're doing?

thank you Bob! A delicate large piece I made broke a while back...we hxtaled it 2 weeks ago, and today it broke again in two places. So I am re-configuring it to stay in three pieces, but I need to soften the edges and add some elements. So I don't care about removing the hxtal, it is more that I want to safely fire the glass. From your message it sounds like I can. I certainly plan to carefully anneal it. (or "them", since it is now three pieces.) I ground the edges and now plan to fire the three pieces separately and assemble later.

thanks Bob. yes, it's a challenge, but it's a new series, having a blast...so excited to be developing new work. don't mind the blips really. grateful for your help this evening. my two kilns are happily chirping away. I feel especially grateful that I have power...which means my kilns AND A/C are working...many of my neighbors are not so lucky.
