If I cut a shape from fibreboard and use it to slump a plate, can I just put Bullseye paper under it to slump onto, or must I slump onto a prepared shelf?

I've always used a shelf because I don't like the expense or smell of the paper, but it will work fine.

Thinfire paper can easily tear. So it is best to place it on a kilnwashed shelf. The wash does not have to be fresh. Should the glass come in contact with a raw shelf, it will stick and ruin the piece.
