How much does the irid coating diminish the reaction?

Depends on the temperature you fire to. High enough and it makes no difference. Lower and you can get some interesting effects, especially with irid down against a copper glass.

sorry, I meant #12. that's turquoise opal, capped with reactive ice? or turquoise opal with reactive ice powder?
