HOW to use this mold

Hi all,,I have this mold that this piece is made from,,(NOT MINE) just found this picture on Etsy,,I have NEVER used this mold cause I couldnt figure out to lay up the glass,,could anyone that has used this mold plz show me a piece BEFORE it is fused??? I am just not willing to waste glass unless I have an idea HOW to first use this,,Thanks so much

I'm pretty sure the glass is set up just like you see the finished piece, but flat. I'm guessing that's why the maker covered it randomly with frit; they're hiding the seams. Center piece appears to be a triangle with squares butted up on the angles.

Thanks for all responding,,I will take a photo of the mold,,but it looks just like the piece of glass,,,I really DONT KNOW what to call this mold lol...maybe some kind of nut dish etc....would the glass just be three pieces butted up ???

LOL,,,maybe yall should have ASKED that question BEFORE I bought the damned thing lol...would have bought another mold that I could do ..

Why not ask the seller of the mold? Please be aware that there are a LOT of "molds" on etsy.com that are not made professionally like the ones sold commercially or by a glass artist. I have seen plenty on that site that will crack glass or just get ingulfed in the glass when slumped.

Quite a few molds that Slumpy's sells don't work very well for slumping. In fact, when I have people come into my studio and ask about problems they're having with a particular mold, more often than not it's a mold they purchased from Slumpy's.

On the positive side, their molds are inexpensive and easy to buy. On the negative, they're not always designed to be the best molds for slumping glass.

wondering if just butting up the glass will make the pieces pull apart during the firing instead of fusing together?

would a good amount of frit on the seams avoids this?

You'll need to use frit or more glass on top to get them to fuse together. Just butting up probably won't work.

There are a few designs I've made over the years that rely on just butting the piece up to each other; as long as it's two layers of 3mm, it'll work.
