How to Make Rays of Sunlight?

Any idea how you get those gorgeous rays of sunlight going through a piece? I assumed they were made with powders. I've seen some tree scenes lately with beautiful sun rays that aboslutely make the piece! Any thoughts or suggestions?

It seems to me the 'rays' I've seen in many landscapes are actually absence of color, with the powder/frit illustration being done on transparent glass.

I posted one of my landscapes in the photo section. I get the rays of moonlight or sunlight by fusing several times with a light color that fits with the rest of the scene. Hope this helps!@
