I'm trying to put into my controller information so I can figure out how much it costs for each firing. I know my charge per kilowatt hour but how and where do I get the wattage rating of my kiln?

Thyere should be a plate with manufacturer's information including voltage and wattage information. It is most likely on side or back, sometimes on the controller, if it is integral to the kiln.

Alice, make sure you take your home or studio's entire electrical usage into account too. I spent a year trying to convince my husband that one of my kilns was only a few bucks to run, only to be told by my electrician that my numbers were wrong; we were being billed at 'penalty rates' instead of the first tier rate I was calculating. That's the year we installed solar to run the house.

To get the real answer, you need an amp meter, a volt meter, and some sort of timer that tells you total on time.
