Hi All,
If I want to fuse a wafer, or a thin piece of glass UNDER the piece I have, smaller than the upper piece -
What is better,
Fusing on the primed shelf
OR
fusing on thin fire paper [will add texture, I am afraid]
What would you recommend? and why - if there is a specific reason

Partly, it depends upon what you are trying to do.
I would assume that firing directly on a kiln shelf would be the most likely to result in bubbles, so consider that when coming up with your firing schedule.
Firing on a kiln shelf or thin fire, in addition to texture, would likely "flatten" any existing texture/relief if there is any in your wafer that you want to keep. Firing on fiber paper would be the mostly likely way to keep the existing relief, but of course, would cause some texture.

finally I made a small experiment [no answer here......................... so I had to
]
I fired at the same firing 4 pieces
1. On fiber 3 mil. - came out with the image standing out of the piece.
2. On the kiln shelf - came out flat, and so did
3. and 4. on 2 mil. fiber paper
NO air bubbles. {I got to check my note book, but I believe I did not bubble soak]
I want the back of the piece to be flat - so I choose to do the "real" firing on thin fire, I think.
Right now I am having another experiment, before doing the "real" thing - that's the background - I fire on irid. glass, and on opaline glass BE 0403 - I want to see how it will look. Seems to me the irid will yield interesting, different results. Can't wait to the morning, when it will be cold [almost midnight here]
