Hi!
I just bought some of the ceramaguard. I am wanting to make small casting shapes in it (small hearts, flowers, etc.). Am I right in thinking I can carve into the smooth side with some sort of tool? And then kiln wash before firing? Or Zyp? Any suggestions on tools to use to carve? Any other suggestions on uses?

I use it for carving all the time. You can carve it with any tool that will carve wood or a linoleum block. I carve more intricate designs with a CNC machine.
After carving, you can kiln wash or use a sheet of thinfire over the Ceramaguard. The thinfire will hold together fine for the firing and will give you more detail than kiln wash.
Don't carve on the painted side, the paint flakes off after the first firing or so. You can sand the unpainted side if you wish.
