I'm looking for hole saws smaller than 13mm (smaller than 1/2 inch).

I'm in the US. I looked at Rio Grande, but no luck.

Any suggestions?

I'm wanting to make heishe beads out of glass, but also other materials, so I'm wanting diamond bits as well as bits suitable for wood.

Daniel Lopaki is no longer selling diamond bits. I have not had good performance from LAU, at least not the small bits although the price is great. I tried the triple ripple bits in the 1mm size and so far I have drilled about 80 holes with the first bit. These are pricey bits, but the performance of the first one was a bargain.

Overall the performance of small diamond bits is unpredictable. Sometimes I will have two or three bits de-bond on the first hole while the next bit is good for 30 or 40 holes. I use a jewelry drill press and a bath of water, and I have drilled many thousands of holes. One trick with the small bits is to use a wire cutter to shorten the shaft of the bit, particularly the LAU bits.

Daniel is still in business. Gotta work his site to get to the drills.

Lau has worked fine for me. I too have drilled 1000s of holes. Get an average of 10-12 holes per bit. They cost peanuts per bit.

That is interesting about Daniel. The last time I talked with him, he said he was no longer selling the bits and referred me to LAU. Guess he changed his mind. Happy drilling, Barry.

Yeah I think he did continue with a new supplier.
I go back a long way and he was very reliable. Great to work with. I bought my sintered wheels from him at a great price. He no longer sells them, just when I need to replace mine.

I suggest you check out the ebay supplier whose link I posted above. their cone bits are really pretty good.

I think what he is looking for is a core drill with a center drill so he can essentially make small "donuts". I don't know that I have seen anything this small for use with glass that would produce what he is trying to achieve. I would think a good machine shop could weld a center drill to a core drill with good accuracy to achieve a donut shape. Most small "donuts are made from pulled tubing and then cut into small sections, but I sense they are trying to do this from sheet glass.

Not that I like Walmart but the quality is probably equal to many other Chinese items, and the price is right with the size starting at 6mm

Yes, you're right. I was wanting to drill seashell, but I thought I could simply get a bit that would do both shell and glass.
The problem was that I could find core saws of the right size, but never one with a central drill.

Caution drilling shell material. All marine life fills their shells with poison to slow down their being eaten by other sea creatures. Do under water, no dust and wear safety equipment.
