May I introduce myself

Post by David M »

I am David M. I came to warm glass as a visitor in about 2007. I was making telescopes at the time as an amateur. I thought I wanted to look at the stars but that is not where I went. The glass dejure to grind a mirror is borosilicate although sintered quartz is used as well. I asked the question, why can't we use plate glass and why can't we kiln form it. The silence was deafening.

I started the project in 2007 and completed it in 2017. I broke a lot of glass. I would like to leave my notes and diary here on warm glass as a series of posts. Most of what I learned I learned here. Either as a problem or as a suggestion, too or from someone else. I broke a lot of glass.

I will discuss kilns I designed and built, kiln forming, simple mold making, fine anealing, programs, equipment sources and anything else I find in my notes. Or in my head. I am not the person to ask about things. I offer my notes more as a cautionary tale and an archive of what you can do on your own.
