How thick a layer of powder?

Post by CH Glass »

I used to know this... I want to fuse a 3mm layer of frit powder to a sheet of 3mm clear glass. How thick should the powder layer be, prior to firing? I'll fire to 1375 and hold for 15 minutes. In my kiln, that will give me a smooth shiny finish. Thanks!

The answer is going to depend on the color, but typically powder shrinks up to 1/2.

Why do you want the powder so thick? Can it work with a layer of thin (2mm) and a little less powder?
