I have the Skutt 1014, which has elements in the lid and sides. The shelf is 22" and I have 1" posts under it. My two attempts with a drop ring failed and I am wondering if raising the shelf higher might help. Any opinions on best shelf position???
I need all the help I can get....and this board is a godsend!!!!
I can't thank you all enough for your assistance.

In what way have your attempts failed, puddles, dimples, cracks? Raising the shelf will just make the kiln effectively cook hotter for the same temperature readings as when the shelf was low. I don't think it will do anything useful for you, no matter what the problem is. The biggest factor with successful drop outs, is to go slow and monitor frequently. Once you see what you like, vent to freeze it, then anneal. They can be very tricky.
