follow-up question for Tony or anyone

appreciate your help. question #3-base layer same size as design layer and all pieces on design layer butted. design layer won't over flow will it?

question #4-add accent layer to above will it overflow now?

Hi Larry,

Answer #3: If the design layer is the same size as the base layer and all pieces on the design layer are butted then the piece will not overflow... keep in mind that at fusing temperatures, glass doesn't realy overflow... it just kind of moves, and bulges.

Answer #4: If you add an accent layer to the above, it still will not overflow... see above.

Depending on what you want your piece to look like, you can adjust your second firing so that you don't get a flat fuse... instead you might get elements that stand proud from your first two layers... If you were to flat fuse accents on top of two layers, depending on their proximity to the outer edge, you may get some bulging of your edge. This problem can be mitigated by moving the accent piece in, away from the adge. If you held the glass at full-fuse temperatures long enough, the entire piece would flatten and spread out a little. All of this will come from experience fusing glass in different configurations... so get started!
